The pen tool is used to create many shapes that would not be able to be created by only using geometric shapes. You can also use this tool to trace most anything very cleanly and effectively. This pen tool can create perfect curve and even perfect circle. There are so many possibilities when you are using the pen tool.

You can change the shape of a line/ path of something by using the white arrow tool, the pen+ tool, and the pen - tool. The white arrow tool can manipulate lines by taking points of a lines and moving them to a different position. This changes the angle of that part of the certain line or shape. The pen + tool, on the other hand, can add points onto a line so you can manipulate the line in that area. The pen - tool is used to take away points on the line.

Layers are very helpful in design because after you finish part of a design, before you start drawing more details, you can create a new layer where you can safely draw over the previous design without messing it up. Layers are also helpful when using guidelines, so you don't accidentally move them, but you can still see them.


To create a clipping mask you must first draw a shape, with no fill or line color, that covers the whole portions of space that you want to isolate. Then you must make sure the shape is in the front of your design. After that, take the black arrow tool and highlight the whole design and go up to "Object" then "Clipping Mask" and then "Make Clipping Mask".
